The Old Kitchen

History

The Old Kitchen at Badminton House was once the heart of culinary activity for the family, guests, and staff. It retains many original features, including copper pots, historic ovens, and a functioning hearth with traditional tools. Over the centuries, it has witnessed countless meals prepared for grand events. Today, the walls display funerary hatchments of the 7th Duke of Beaufort from 1873, featuring family crests and the motto Mutare Vel Timere Sperno (“I scorn to change or fear”). The kitchen remains a symbol of both past traditions and the sophistication needed to serve such a distinguished household.
